Sola Powers!

I've wanted to make this for a long time: my own sixties B-movie sci-fi poster! With beautiful women, deadly droids and, of course, flying saucers. I quite like the end result, it has even got that faded look of the posters I flipped through in the Silver Screen, a movie memorabilia shop in Amsterdam. The only thing I regret is not starting by blocking out the composition first ... a bit messy. But I was enjoying it so much, it sort of grew by itself.

Fun in the photo booth

I saw some kids do this the other day. Funny, even now mobile phones have cameras, there's still something hilarious about huddling together in a photo booth, make stupid faces, and wait for the light to flash. I would know, spent many a coin myself there!

Easter Egg!

The AW short Hard Boiled Chicken is now online! This little film toured festivals worldwide and won a total of 7 international awards:
-Best Animation Short at Animacor, Spain (2006)
-Ijzeren Haring at Leids Filmfestival (2007)
-Best Children's Film at Kyoto, Japan (2008)
-Moviesquad Junior Award at Holland Animation Film festival (2009)
and three other awards in Egypt, Bosnia and the USA.
Hard Boiled Chicken also toured the Dutch arthouse cinemas along with the documentary Our Daily Bread, which has been seen by over 10,000 visitors. The film was made by Animation Works, and produced by il Luster Productions. We're very proud of our feathered friends. We wish them a happy retirement, and we wish everybody a happy Easter! Eraser drawing

A little experiment in which I covered my paper with pencil grub, and made a drawing with my eraser. Funny how it looks like so much more than I actually drew. A few strokes with a blunt eraser, and your eye fills in the gaps. Some more on my blog

Meander concept

This was one of the first pictures I did for this great project called Malmberg Ontdekkingsreizen. It's a whole new teaching method for elementary schools, featuring Meander (geography), Brandaan (history) and Naut (physics), for groups 5,6,7 and 8, so 12 books altogether. In every chapter the characters get into all kinds of really cool adventures which are somehow related to the lessons. I did the covers, working with Jelle Gijsberts, and over 160 pencil illustrations for the stories. More soon.

De Beloning van de Koning

Ik durf me haast niet meer te vertonen hier na het lange stilzwijgen ... reden is een prachtige illustratieklus voor Comic House die me flink bezighoudt, en een maand of vijf gaat duren. En ik mag er natuurlijk niks van publiceren. Wat ik intussen WEL kan doen, is pronken met andermans veren! Hier een nieuw prentenboekje: De Beloning van de Koning. Het rijmverhaaltje is van mijn hand, maar de prachtige illustraties zijn van aanstormend talent Jelle Gijsberts!
